Enable two-factor authentication in Microsoft 365

This guide shows you how to setup and prepare for two-factor authentication in Microsoft 365, step by step.

To complete the setup, you will need a computer and your mobile phone. Start by installing Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile phone.

On mobile phone

  1. Go to App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android) and install the Microsoft Authenticator app.

On computer

  1. Open a browser and go to https://aka.ms/setupmfa
  2. Login with the account you want to prepare for two-factor authentication. 
    Note: If required please reset your password and keep the new password safe.
  3. Once logged then you might be prompted with the below screen. click Next.

    4. You now need your mobile phone. First, you need to download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app, from either Google Play or the AppStore. Click Next.

    5. Click Next.

    6.     Use the Authenticator app to scan the QR code that appears. Click Next.

    7.     Now test if the authentication works. Approve the notification that appears in the app on your mobile phone.

    8. You will now be informed that the notification has been approved. Click Next.

    9. Then open https://outlook.office.com/ in your browser and then login with your account credential by using OTP from your mobile phone.
